Confirmation Class – 2026
Confirmation or Reception into the Episcopal Church Dear members and friends of Saint Paul’s, On Saturday, April 25, Bishop Craig Loya, the 10th Bishop of Minnesota, will be offering the Sacrament of Confirmation or Reception into the Episcopal Church. This takes place at 10:00AM at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Minneapolis. “Confirmation” is for people who have been baptized, but not confirmed in the Episcopal Church, Lutheran Church, or Orthodox Churches, etc. Ask Rev. Ramona if you aren’t sure. Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which the candidates “express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 860)
“Reception” means being formally welcomed into the Episcopal Church by the Bishop. To be received, a person needs to be baptized in any Christian denomination, and confirmed in the Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, churches. etc. Ask Rev. Ramona if you aren’t sure. In Reception, the person makes a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism in the presence of a bishop. The bishop lays hands on each candidate for reception and says, “We recognize you as a member of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion.” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 418)
Preparation for Confirmation or Reception requires a person to spend some in discernment and learning about the Episcopal Church and the meaning of Confirmation and Reception. I will be offering four 30-minute classes (along with some reading on your own time) on the following Sundays following the 10:00AM worship in the Choir Room:
• March 15 • March 22 • April 12 • April 19
I promise opportunities for good discussion, discernment, learning interesting facts, and some Episcopal fun! For planning purposes, it would be helpful if you let me know you plan to attend. Or, if the Spirit moves you in the moment, it’s also fine to simply join the class on March 15. Blessings and in appreciation, Rev. Ramona+ ramona@stpaulsmpls.org
