This Sunday at Saint Paul's

Your Weekly E-pistle for 12 August 2018
Groveland and Joyce Uptown Food Shelves joyfully receive Saint Paul’s weekly donations of personal care and non-perishable food. Please bring items to church as part of your weekly offering, and place in the baskets at the Narthex doors. Thank you.

Thank you to the Building & Grounds Commission for hosting Coffee Hour; next week, the Outreach Commission.

Upcoming Events and General Announcements

Flip a burger, get a smile! Temple Israel is hosting a BBQ for homeless youth THIS TUESDAY, and there are several ways we can be involved. Read this announcement from the Outreach Commission, and get your grill on!

Our annual School Supply Drive for Jefferson Community School has begun. Pick up a shopping list in the Narthex, or click here to read the details. Donations will be collected on the large table in the Nathex for the remaining Sundays in August.

Further Painting Project news from your Vestry! Read about our next steps forward here.

Gift Cards for God: Bring your unused gift cards to the church over the next few week and help us listen to our neighbors. The New Vision Committee is ready to send out our community survey to our neighbors, and your gift cards will help entice our neighbors to provide feedback. Any gift card will do, so long as it can be used locally or online.

Registration for August’s Commission Saturday is now open! Join us on 18 August from 8:30am-1pm for commission meetings, crafting our parish mission and vision statements, and articulating our core values.  If you serve on a Commission or not, have ideas about ministry, or want to get more deeply involved with Saint Paul’s, this event is for YOU! Register online or on paper (available in the Beim Neighborhood House).

Meetings of Saint Paul’s Vestry are open to all who wish to attend. The next meeting will be Monday, 20 August at 7:00pm in the Thurston Conference Room. Minutes of past meetings will be on our website soon; until that time, you can find a reference copy of all approved minutes in a box across form the Rector’s office, in the Resources box, or by contacting the Clerk of the Vestry, Jeff Gosnell.

Confirmation Registration: If your child age 12-18 and wishes to deepen their faith and learn more about the Episcopal Church, please contact Father Marcus and let him know. Our next class will be confirmed by Bishop Prior in May 2019.

Community Coffice Hours in July and August will be held at Dunn Brothers Coffee on Wednesdays 10am-3pm. Join Father Marcus for coffee and conversation, on any topic! Drop in or set an appointment (private meetings can be scheduled with the Rector).

In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for all hospital chaplaincies, counseling chaplaincies, and Spiritual Directors throughout the Episcopal Church in Minnesota; for our faith community nurses, health ministers, and all those who minister to the sick; and for all farmers and laborers working with the harvest, especially San Jose Obrero Mission in Montgomery. We also pray for the parishes of Saint Mary (Basswood Grove, Ely, Saint Paul).

On our Parish Prayer List, we pray for Adeline, Alex, Anna and Steve, Bob, Dianne, Eva, Greg, Harvey, Jennie Beth, Joan, John, Karen, Kate, Katherine, Krista, Laura, Liz, Mary, Nancy, Natalia, Norman, Pat and Steve, Philip, Richard, Sue, Susan, and the Coopergard, del Caro Scaia, and Paulson families.

We also pray for the repose of the soul of Christopher James Ross, son of Jim Ross; may he rest in peace and rise in glory.

How Can We Help?

Senior Warden Message – COVID-19 Update

“Church is not cancelled; it has changed.” This was the message shared in the bulletin and in the opening message of our first online Eucharist. In these challenging times of COVID-19 we need to find new ways to connect, new ways to gather, and new ways to replenish our spirit.

Last Sunday’s online liturgy and a new Wednesday night online Compline, which will start next week, are just two ways we have started to adjust to what will be our new temporary normal. Besides our services going online, we are also sending notes, making calls, and having time together on various social media platforms. Keeping connected is so important to our Saint Paul’s community. We are all in this together supporting each other. God is making his presence known in all these wonderful interactions.

Two weeks ago, when we suspended our in-church services and closed the doors of the church, we hoped to reopen our doors April 1. Unfortunately, with the Stay-at-Home orders from Governor Walz and recommendations from Bishop Prior, we continue to be closed to holding any kind of in-person or public gatherings. The current recommendation from the Bishop is through mid-May. Although disappointing, this is necessary to keep all of us and our neighbors healthy. Please understand that the church will be locked and closed to all church-related activities.

Although disappointing, this is necessary to keep all of us and our neighbors healthy. Please understand that the church will be locked and closed to all church-related activities.

Earlier this month we formed a COVID-19 response team. This team, made up of staff and Vestry members, is supporting and helping us live into this new temporary normal. This group will continue to watch for new ways for us to keep connected. They will watch for guidance from Episcopal Church of Minnesota (ECMN), the Minnesota Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO). I am so proud of the work they are doing and the amazing amount of love and care they have for our members.

Continue to watch for updates in your email, on Saint Paul’s Facebook page, or on our website. And don’t forget you too can help us keep connected – use our Realm online directory to reach out to your church family.

Stay healthy and know that God is with us, Beth
