Bigger Hearts Philanthropy Party
November 4, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST
Microphilanthropy is based on the idea that each one of us can make a huge difference in our community no matter how big (or small) our wallets are. We will crowdfunding the following projects:
Joyce Uptown Food Shelf is fundraising $700 to provide one month of meat/protein to Joyce Foodshelf participants. In a statewide survey of food shelf clients, Hunger Solutions found that the number one item that food shelf participants request is meat/protein. Joyce Uptown Foodshelf strives to provide at least a couple of varieties of meat to choose from to help meet cultural needs as well. Raising $700 will purchase beef, fish and turkey for one month.
Hennepin County Public Library is asking for $300 for updating Early Literacy Kits at the Minneapolis Central Library. These are portable boxes of books and literacy toys that would live on each floor of the library. Parents can use them with their children or children can use them on their own while parents work on the computer. This is a big need in the building as families often use the space outside the dedicated children’s area and staff members need tools to help engage kids and help them be successful.
Downtown Congregations Ending Homelessness (DCEH) is asking for $1120 to help fund their new Emergency Rental Assistance program. This program helps support families who are in immediate danger of being evicted because they have fallen behind in their rent. $1120 is the average cost to keep one family from becoming homeless in Minneapolis.
The party is absolutely free. We will be serving appetizers and festive beverages. You are encouraged to bring $5, $10, $20 or more dollars with you to donate to one or more of these worthy causes.
