E-pistle for October 8

Saint Paul's ChurchChurch News, E-PISTLE

This Sunday at Saint Paul’s:

Attention acolytes, crucifers, and wannabes: There will be a QUICK 10-minute organizational meeting to schedule training for all those who are currently serving (or who want to begin serving) this Sunday at 9:30am in the Narthex. Please bring your calendars so we can schedule; parents, please attend this meeting with your children.

Food and personal care items are collected each Sunday and delivered to Groveland Food Shelf’s ministry to homeless youth. Please consider bringing an item or two weekly as part of your offering.

Thank you to the Pastoral Care Team for hosting today’s coffee hour. Next week: the Vestry.

The Parish Life Commission and the Pastoral Care Team will be meeting this Sunday after worship. Gather your coffee hour snack and join us!

Confirmation and Episcopal Church 101 Class will be offered again this fall on Sundays after church, for both new and seasoned members. A continuation of conversations began last spring about all things Episcopalian. The first session will be this Sunday from 11:15-noon in the Thurston Room with Lydia.

Do you take “The Sunday Paper”? Lectionary-relevant activity sheets for children –Junior and Intermediate– are available in the nursery and the Narthex (back of the church by the bulletins).

Prayer Calendar:

We also pray for the parish of Saint Edward (Wayzata).

Upcoming Events and General Announcements:

The Search Committee has provided an update on where they currently are in the process. Curious? Read more here

Lord, we ask you to guide the members of our Search Committee in their selection of candidates for our new spiritual leader. Give them wisdom and insight into the qualities of leadership needed to best serve our precious church.

Encourage the spirit of the person who will become our priest to accept with joy your choice for him/her to lead us as we move forward as a faith-filled church.
Give us all a sense of happy anticipation as we await the one we know will be the right one according to your plan for us. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Help Wanted:

The Buildings and Grounds Commission is looking for a few people to help with staining and/or planing of several doors around the church. Schedule is flexible and the work is rewarding. If you would like to help, please speak to or contact Beth Carlson.

Help Wanted, Part Two:

We are looking for paid staff and able volunteers to assist in the Nursery on Sunday mornings. For more information, please contact Liz Clarke: 651-735-5642.

The Oktoberfest Leisure Time Party is scheduled for 20 October, and organizers are seeking donations for bingo prizes. Please consider sharing notions, blank greeting cards, stamps, and other small items. Contact Shirley Holt with questions.

Consecration Sunday is 23 October. Mark your calendars and plan to join us for inspirational worship and a delicious catered lunch.

The Worship Commission’s next book for ongoing education in all things liturgical is Intercession: A Theological and Practical Guide by Ormonde Plater. The book is available new and used from Amazon; there is also one copy in our church library, thanks to an anonymous donor. All are welcome to participate in reading this book and discussing with us at our next Worship Commission meeting, Tuesday 25 October, 7:00pm in the choir room. Contact Deb Jones or Ashley Dow to get the list of earlier Worship Commission book selections.

Remembering those we have lost will be a feature of our All Saints Sunday service on 6 November. If you would like to add a name to our memorial list, there will be a sign-up page in the Narthex. Please clearly print the name of the person being remembered and your name. You can also email the information to Deb Jones.

Do you long to be more social without the pressure of social media? Face time with fellow parishioners can be yours in our new Cottage Groups! Read all the details here.

We want to see Saint Paul’s through your eyes! Have you captured any Saint Paul’s moments you’d like to share – a photo of the lovely flowers this spring, or your friends at coffee hour? Have you depicted our church in other art mediums? Send your .jpg files to Angie Paulson (or bring them on a flash drive or CD), and they will be added to the photos taken over the years. You might see your work in an E-pistle, The Messenger, or on our website…

Help beautify our sanctuary for worship: Give altar flowers to mark important occasions or significant events in your life. Write us a note or email, telling us your name, the date you wish to give flowers, and your desired dedication. Checks should be made out to Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, with “altar flowers” in the memo; suggested donation is $50.
Do you have an announcement for next week’s E-pistle?

Submit your announcement –including all details and contact information– to the E-pistle, or call Angie (612.483.4187) by Thursday morning.
